There are three classes of
golf competition in South Dakota. Class "AA"
is comprised of the 16 schools with the largest
average daily membership in grades 9 - 12. Class
"A" is comprised the 17th through 32nd
largest schools. Class "B" is comprised of
all other schools.
Individual and team
awards are presented at the state competitions.
Individuals are
qualified for the state tournaments in the following
manner. In Class "AA" all 16 teams will be
allowed 5 participants in the state tournament. Class
"A" is divided into 2 regions of eight and
the top 75% of the total number of regional entries
qualify to the State Tournament. For Class
"B" 30% of the total number of regional
entries qualify to the State Tournament with a minimum
guarantee of 15.
Teams are qualified to
the state "A" and "B" tournaments
in the following manner. Team champions shall be
determined in each class "A" &
"B" region. In the "A" school
competition the first, second and third place teams
shall qualify. Any non-champion team having four
players within the 75% qualifying limits also
qualifies for the State Tournament. In the
"B" school competition the first and second
place teams shall qualify for the State
Tournament. Any non-champion team having three
players within the 30% qualifying limits also
qualifies for the State Tournament.
Contestants play 36
holes to determine the stroke-play champion for each
class. The team champion is determined by combining
the 4 lowest 36-hole totals from each team.
