SPIRIT OF MAX Award |
SPIRIT OF MAX PRESENTATION
The SD Tennis Association has
established the Spirit of Max Award to be given to one
senior girl and senior boy tennis player during the
respective state tennis tournaments. The award was
started in 2000 and is named in honor of Max Beeners.
Max was a member of the Sioux
Falls Roosevelt Roughriders team. He was active in
school, community and church activities. After
contracting cancer, Max continued to serve as a role
model for other young people through his perseverance,
good humor and positive attitude. Max passed away in
June of 1999 shortly after reaching his goal of
graduating from Roosevelt High.
The Spirit of Max Award is presented
based upon the categories of academic achievement,
tennis achievement, sportsmanship, extra-curricular
activities, and character as selected by a panel of
five coaches.
The recipient of the 2001 Spirit of
Max Award is from O'Gorman High School... Liz Donohue.
