Sister teammates Melinda, Nicole and Danielle Zirbel from Summit offer each other some congratulations after the State B Girls race. Melinda took first place in the race with a time of 15:44. Nicole came across the line in 2nd and Danielle placed 5th. Melinda also set the state record in the 2 mile earlier this season. The entire six girl team from Summit is comprised of Zirbel cousins or sisters. The sisters' 12th sibling was born earlier in season(8 girls, 4 boys in the family). So far, they are the only runners.

The Class B Girls Race is underway.

Teams arrived at the Elks Friday afternoon for warm-up running, course surveying and souvenir shopping as participants purchased state jerseys to mark their participation in the event. Runners were scheduled from 3- 7p.m. for on-site preparation.

Amber Clifton, Melissa Passolt, Amanda Samuelson and Tiffany Fisher from Faith look for the starting line.
Wakonda's sole female qualifier, Ashley Logue, said "It's pretty cool being the only girl because I get my own room." Although it seems her fellow teammates would rather hang out in her room and watch TV because "it smells better."
