Cross Country- A

The 2001 State Cross Country meet was held October 20th  at the Elks Golf Club in Rapid City. The A Girls race began at 12:30pm MDT. 37 schools are in the Girls A division. 125 are entered in the race. The Class overall record at 4,000 meters was set in Mitchell by Jessica Donner of Lead in 1998 with a time of 14:11. Last year's champion Shannon Daly of Groton ran today. The new 2001 State A Girls Cross Country Champion Kai Schaefer from Madison wins the race with a time of 16:04.41. Madison took second as a team just behind the State A Team Champions from McCook.
Shannon Daly from Groton placed 2nd in 16:26.70.
Britton's Amber Kadoun took 3rd in16:42.88.

The race is underway!


Teams arrived at the Elks Friday afternoon for warm-up running, course surveying and souvenir shopping as participants purchased state jerseys to mark their participation in the event. Runners were scheduled from 3- 7p.m. for on-site preparation.

Sophomore Lori Rotert from McCook stops by the t-shirt table for a memento. Coached by Randy Fischer, seven girls and one boy from McCook qualified for the State competition. Manager Becca Aden noted that the team watched movies on bus trip out to Rapid City which sounds like a  good  way to travel.
Britton's coach Stu Elgethun assists freshman Amber Kadoun with an anterior ankle injury. Kadoun, who damaged her ankle while playing basketball for Britton in a recent game this season, placed 11th as an 8th grader in last year's cross country state competition. 

Custer runner Tharia Samara provides teammate Steve Moorehead with a lot of direction and a  little advice as they survey the grounds at the Elks Club golf course. "I was visualizing for tomorrow," said Samara.
