The 2001 State Cross Country meet
was held October
20th at the Elks Golf Club in Rapid City.
38 schools with 113 runners are entered in the Class B
race. The overall record for Class B
boys on a 5000 meter course was set by Harley Hanson of
Rosholt. He ran 15.25 in 1986 in Mitchell. A new Class
B Boys Champion was crowned this year as last
year's champion Tyler Costine of Colman-Egan
graduated. The B Boys competition began at
3:00pm MDT. Gene Gillen of Rapid City started the
race. Follow the menu expansion to "5000

Patrick King from
Baltic is the 2001State B Boys Cross Country
Champion. He finished the 5000 meter race in
17:10.63. |
Bill Haukaas from
White River took 2nd in the Boys B competition.
He finished in 17:26.82. |

Dane
Yde,17:40.26, took 3rd and helped Baltic
to a team State B Boys Championship title. The
team's total time was 52.44.87. Their average
was 17:34.96. |
The
Class B race is underway.
Teams arrived at the Elks Friday afternoon for
warm-up running, course surveying and souvenir
shopping as participants purchased state jerseys to
mark their participation in the event. Runners were
scheduled from 3- 7p.m. for on-site preparation.

"It was a long drive,"
agreed Wakonda teammates Eric Skonhovd, Robert
Gregoire, Nick Skonhovd, Tyler Moser, Ashley
Logue and Bo Martz. According to Martz, the crew
"played on their GameBoys, listened to CDs
and tortured Ashley," the team's only
qualifying girl. |
