There are three classes of basketball competition in
South Dakota. Class "AA" is comprised of the
16 schools with the largest average daily membership
in grades 9 - 12. Class "A" is comprised the
next 64 largest schools. Class "B" is
comprised of all remaining schools.
8 teams advance to the state tournament through
district and regional playoffs. Teams advancing to the
state tournament are seeded for play according the
their regular season win/loss record. Tournament
brackets are structured in this manner.
Group1 - Seed 1 vs Seed 8
Seed 5 vs Seed 4
Group 2 - Seed 3 vs Seed 6
Seed 7 vs Seed 2
Winning teams from each group continue play in the
championship round, Losing teams in each group
continue play in the consolation round.
